Igor Levitin, Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation

I am happy to welcome the organisers, participants and guests of the III International Rail Business Forum “1520 Strategic Partnership: Baltic Region”.

It is crucial today for railway transport to meet the global challenges of the 21st century. We face the ambitious challenges of creating new areas of high-speed transport, comfort and security for passengers, shaping an affordable price policy, developing the country’s transit potential, and fully satisfying the needs of freight operators for transport using modern rolling stock.

As the network of transport corridors and freight containerisation expands, there is an obvious and economically justified need to strengthen the role of railways on key pan-European routes. With this in mind, we need to take active measures to provide railway transport for intermodal shipments.

The Baltic region has several objective and strategic advantages, it is a key transit corridor for the Russian transport system, and provides access to international markets.

The III International Rail Business Forum “1520 Strategic Partnership: Baltic Region” will serve as another essential step in boosting the level of technological and operational compliance between the 1520 and 1435 railway areas with the goal of further developing an international market for transport services.

Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation

Igor Levitin
