Rail transport in the 1520 area is a stable and robust system which is characterized by common traditions, a unified technological basis, unique know-how, vast dimensions and its significance for the social and economic development of the countries employing the wide gauge.
Any approach to the modernization issue should obviously be based on a precise strategy of common activities and a clear plan of measures. I believe one of the key tasks of this year’s Forum should be to involve larger numbers of participants in the process of modernization and to improve the efficiency cooperation in the 1520 area.
