Deutsche Bahn AG is pleased to participate in the 1520 Strategic Partnership Forum again this year and to play an important role in the development of rail freight traffic in the 1520 region.

The past year with its global economic crisis has been very difficult for all of us; however, we now face the future full of hope. That the economy has rebounded is evidenced by increasing demand in the markets, including the freight sector.

Rail freight also has the chance to profit from this. Now is the ideal moment to prove our competitive edge over other modes of transport using creative ideas, innovative concepts and intelligent solutions. For us as rail companies that entails exploring new avenues. We are facing the challenge of optimally linking the various modes of transport in order to make rail access as easy as possible. Intermodal concepts and solutions are required to ensure the future viability of rail-based transport, be it on transcontinental routes between Asia and Europe or overcoming technical system hurdles between 1435mm-gauge railways in Europe and the 1520 region.

Reliability, efficiency, significant time savings vis-à-vis ocean freight, an excellent environmental record and lower costs overall – these are our strengths and what distinguishes rail as the mode of transport of the future. It's up to us to exploit these advantages and build common transport networks.

The 1520 Strategic Partnership as an international rail forum is thus an excellent platform to exchange on ideas and proposals. Deutsche Bahn is proud to shape the future of rail together with you.
